Bidhu K. Mohanti is Director (Academic), Bagchi Sri Shankara Cancer Centre
& Research Institute, Bhubaneswar.
He was a Professor at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi;
and Director, KIMS Cancer Centre, Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS),
K.I.I.T. University, Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
His education was at different schools of interior Odisha,
then medical graduation from M.K.C.G. Medical College, Berhampur,
followed by MD from Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh.
His academic-clinical career spanned from 1985 to 2013, at Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, Bangalore (1985-1992); then at AIIMS, New Delhi till Feb 2013.He was on deputation to Government of Oman to set up the National Oncology Center within Royal Hospital, Muscat. After his voluntary retirement from AIIMS, he worked to set up the comprehensive cancer facilities at Fortis Healthcare and Manipal Hospitals in Delhi till 2020 before his relocation to Bhubaneswar.
Bidhu K Mohanti has served as expert for I. IAEA, Vienna, Austria and II. European Commission's Health-Cancer area activities, Brussels, Belgium. Within India, he has served as expert at various times for Indian Council of Medical Research, Medical Council of India, University Grants Commission, Ministry of Health & FW, Govt. of India.
He is the Editor of 2 medical books: Text Book of Radiation Oncology, Elsevier, 2000; Carcinoma Larynx and Hypopharynx, Springer-Nature Byword, 2019. He is author of 309 papers published in peer-reviewed journals. His research and academic publications can be viewed at Pubmed.com, Scopus, Web of Science, Research Gate, Google Scholar.
He had obtained training from Oxford in Palliative Care and is a founder member of the Indian Association of Palliative Care. He was conferred the Lifetime Achievement Award by Foundation for Head Neck Oncology, 2016.
Presently his social and professional works at Bhubaneswar are for Forum for Odisha Dialogues,
and Amrit Dhara Palliative Care Trust, and as Adviser for Bagchi-Karunashray Palliative Care Centre.
He is an occasional writer and theatre artist in the public space.
His recently published book is titled: Father-a policeman & Son-an oncologist (Har-Anand Publications, Delhi.2023), trying to combine a biography with an autobiography. The memoirs span nearly 80 years of India and Odisha from British Colonial period to the present time. He is working on the commissioned upcoming book to cover radiation oncology & cancer care in India and low and middle-income countries.
