About
I am Dr. Karima Alabasi, a Registered Dietitian with a Ph.D. in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Florida. With over a decade of experience in academia, I have established myself as both a dedicated educator and an active researcher in the field of nutrition.
Before my current role at Nova Southeastern University (NSU), I held faculty positions at Northwest Missouri State University (NWMSU) in the United States and the University of Zawia in Libya. These roles provided me with a diverse and comprehensive background in teaching, curriculum development, and research.
My core expertise lies in clinical nutrition, and I have taught a wide range of undergraduate and graduate courses, including Medical Nutrition Therapy I & II (MNT I & II), as well as their corresponding laboratory components.
My research is driven by a strong commitment to improving health outcomes through nutrition. I focus primarily on human clinical studies, exploring the roles of dietary fiber, prebiotics, probiotics, synbiotics, and functional foods in promoting health and preventing disease. Additionally, I am involved in nutrition assessment research and community-based nutrition interventions, translating scientific evidence into practical, population-level solutions.
