About

I am Sandhya Tagaram. I work as an academic hospitalist at UMass Memorial Medical Center, Worcester, MA. At my institution, I mentor residents and medical students on quality improvement projects and work as a longitudinal preceptor for the UMass Chan Medical Students class of 2027. I am also the faculty, sponsor, and course designer for a multidisciplinary flexible professional experience (FPE) course on “Patient Safety Care Coordination and Transitions through Hospital Medicine lens” for the class of 2026 medical students. I have been a member of the Society of Hospital Medicine(SHM) since 2013. I was awarded the Fellow SHM in 2023. I am also pursuing a master’s program in healthcare quality and patient safety at Thomas Jefferson University. In my master's course, I am actively engaged in article reviews and manuscript writing.
As an academic hospitalist and quality improvement champion, I take every opportunity to teach medical students and residents, the principles of healthcare quality and patient safety, and their impact on clinical medicine. Quality improvement projects and their role in clinical medicine have been one of my strongest areas of scholarly interest. I believe that my focus on patient safety, care coordination, and their role in clinical medicine plays a key role in offering safe, patient-centered value-based care in modern medicine. I have peer review experience from AAFP as well. I look forward to bringing the concepts of academic journal writing with the spotlight on medical education, collaborative teamwork, organization culture, principles of high-reliability healthcare organizations, and their role in patient safety. I strongly believe that these concepts will not only play a significant role in building strong professional networks in the fields of patient safety and academic medicine but also effectively help to address the deficiencies in healthcare and make a positive impact on patient s health outcomes and physician satisfaction.
