Gabapentin is a prescription drug. It is important to take it as directed by your doctor.

Each gabapentin capsule contains 100 mg, 300 mg or 400 mg of gabapentin. Each tablet contains 600 mg or 800 mg of gabapentin.

If you are taking gabapentin as a liquid, 2 ml may be the equivalent of taking 100 mg tablets or capsules. Always check the label.

Dose for epilepsy
Recommended dosage:

Adults and older children (12 years and older) are 900-3600 mg per day, divided into 3 doses.
Small children (6-12 years old) - varies depending on weight
Dose of nerve pain
The usual dose for the treatment of nerve pain in adults is 900 mg to 3600 mg per day, divided into 3 doses.

Change them to your dosage
To avoid side effects, your doctor will start with a low dose and then increase it over a period of days. Once you find the dosage that works for you, it’s always going to stay the same.

How to take it
Gabapentin capsules and tablets should be swallowed whole with a glass of water or juice. Don’t chew them.

Gabapentin can be taken with or without food, but it is best to do the same every day.

Try to spread your doses evenly throughout the day. For example, you can take it in the morning, afternoon, and before bed.

If you or your child is taking fluids, he or she will bring a plastic syringe or spoon to measure your dose. If you don’t have a syringe or spoon, ask your pharmacist for one. Don’t use a kitchen spoon as it won’t measure the correct amount.
