About
Milan Toma, Ph.D., is an associate professor at NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM) with expertise in image processing, high-performance computing, and biomechanics. He researches the interactions between fluid and structures within the human body, focusing on conditions such as brain fluids, pregnancy, and cardiovascular fluid-structure interaction. Prior to joining NYITCOM, Toma conducted critical research on fluid dynamics, particularly in pediatric head trauma, which challenged previous beliefs about cerebrospinal fluid's protective capabilities. Toma and his students have also tested the effectiveness of protective helmets in high-risk scenarios like automobile accidents and contact sports. With an extensive academic background and research experience in different countries, Toma brings a diverse perspective to his work in the field of biomechanics.
