About

Briefly: I’m a PGY-5 neurologic surgery resident at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, an Editor of Social Media for the Journal of Neurosurgery (@TheJNS), and a master's degree candidate in the Clinical and Translational Science program at the Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. My previous educational experiences include undergraduate in the honors program at the University of Virginia, a post-baccalaureate premedical curriculum at Columbia University, and medical school in the honors program at NYU School of Medicine. As a medical student, my basic science projects focused on tumor immunology, in particular the role of toll-like receptors in neoplastic transformation, which I explored as a member of the S. Arthur Localio Laboratory.

Within neurosurgery, my academic and clinical interests fall largely within complex cranial surgery, encompassing a broad range of topics at the nexus of skull base and cerebrovascular practices including neuroanatomy, neuroradiology, radiosurgery, neurotrauma, and interesting case reports. My master's thesis focuses on clinical outcomes after stereotactic radiosurgery for pituitary disease, under the mentorship of Dr. Bruce Pollock, and is anticipated to be followed by a PGY-6 chief resident year, and PGY-7 in-folded skull base neuro-oncology fellowship under the mentorship of Dr. Mike Link. My involvement in organized neurosurgery focuses on resident education and the role of social media in expanding neurosurgical practice and education (@Graffeo). My commitment to service includes local work as a member of our department's Research Committee, Resident Council, and Curriculum Task Force, as well as nationally as a member of and IT Director for the Young Neurosurgeons Committee (@YoungNeuros), which I have been honored to serve since being elected in 2016.

Elsewhere: I’m an Editor-at-Large with ArtsEditor.com, where I’ve contributed original arts criticism and editorial support since 2006.

News! My medical alma mater NYU recently eliminated tuition for all present and future students, which is amazing. Some disagree with that decision, but fortunately the NYTimes was kind enough to print my counterpoint letter in support of this incredible development at what I consider to be the most innovative and student-centric medical school in the world.
