Rahul M. Jindal is a Professor of Surgery, Global Health and Global Surgery at Uniformed Services University. Jindal is the author of over 200 manuscripts; has been funded by the National Institute of Health. Jindal’s research work have been cited in text books and editorials. Jindal has played a crucial role in the team that conducted groundbreaking surgery at Walter Reed on Thanksgiving Day in 2009. A 21-year old senior airman, Tre Porfirio was shot three times by an insurgent in Afghanistan; he received the first ever pancreas islet cell transplant after trauma. In addition to his clinical activities, Jindal coauthored a text book “The Struggle for Life: A Psychological Perspective of Kidney Disease and Transplantation” Jindal teaches in class and distance learning global health modules of Uniformed Services University. Jindal also teaches at the summer school on Global Health Diplomacy at the University of Oxford and is a visiting professor at several institutions in India. Jindal setup the first kidney dialysis and transplant program in Guyana. His team visits the Republics of Guyana and Suriname several times a year to perform kidney and corneal transplants. He is in the process of initiating a kidney transplant program in the Republic of Botswana. Jindal is the Director of the National Blood and Bone marrow Drive Campaign which was sponsored by about 600 Hindu temples throughout North America. He is the Co-Chair of SEVAK Program in which his team trains students in good preventative measures and diagnosis of diabetes and hypertension. Dr Jindal received the Leadership Award by the “International Leadership Foundation”, Washington, DC, 2013. He also received the Outstanding American by choice award by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, 2013. Jindal was awarded the Fulbright-Nehru Distinguished Chair to carry out research and teaching in India (2016 & 2022) and the Ellis Island Medal of Honor, 2015. The Carnegie Foundation, New York, named Jindal as the “Great Immigrant – Great American”, 2019. Governor of Maryland appointed Jindal as Commissioner, Office on Service and Volunteerism and Commissioner to the Human Rights Commission, Montgomery County, Maryland. Jindal is also an adjunct at the Indian Institute of Public Health, Gandhinagar, India and SUNY-Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn. He is also a member of Health X-Prize.
