About

During my period of fellowship training in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology I had the good fortune to be directly involved in the development of the procedure known as radio-frequency catheter ablation. Working closely with the late Will Webster (Webster Laboratories, now Biosense-Webster), who designed and built the catheters, and through the unique leadership of Warren Jackman, MD, we were able to establish this procedure as first line therapy for virtually all cardiac tachyarrhythmias and provided the first durable, curative catheter procedure in the field of cardiology.

During a 10 year period following completion of training, I served as consultant to cardiac electrophysiologists from 27 teaching centers in Europe, Asia and the US for the purpose of teaching the radiofrequency catheter ablation procedure.

I practiced cardiac electrophysiology for 30 years at the Prairie Heart Institute and served as their director of cardiac electrophysiology before retiring and moving to Northern California. I could not turn down a job offer and continued pursuing arrhythmia management at the Sutter Santa Rosa Regional Hospital before retiring once again this Spring. Areas of interest were catheter ablation of complex cardiac arrhythmias, all device implantations and lead extraction.

For the past 27 years, my wife and I have provided continuing education to fellows-in-training, EP lab nurses and radiology technicians throughout the US in a program known as Order and Disorder in the Cardiac Rhythm. The 3 day program continues to be the only nationally recognized, ongoing EP training program for lab personnel.

I have been either the principal or participating investigator in over 30 research studies, authored or coauthored 31 manuscripts or book chapters and 41 abstract presentations.
