Dr. Premkumar received his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from PSG institute of medical sciences and research in the year 1996. He moved on to complete his MS in general Surgery from Sri Ramachandra medical college and research institute. He then pursued his Master in Minimal Access Surgery from Ninewells hospital, Dundee,Scotland, UK,

He also holds a fellowship in minimal access surgery from World Association of laparoscopic surgeons. He also holds a Diploma in advanced laparoscopic surgery and Minimal access surgery and fellowship in robotic surgery. He is a Fellow International College of Surgeons and Fellow Indian Association of Gatrointestinal Endosurgeons. He has to his credit more than 25 papers presentations, 7 publications, guest lecturer at 16 lectures, invited faculty at 16 forums, part of 7 live demonstrations and numerous courses. He is also the Vice president of the International college of robotic surgeons.He is a fellow of the Royal college of surgeons of Glasgow.

Recipient of - “Chikitsa Rattan award, Bharat Jyothi award and Mother Teresa award” for excellence in the field of medical health care.

He recently underwent an attachment in “latest trends in hernia surgery and abdominal wall reconstruction” in Anne Arundel Medical centre,Maryland,USA under the world renowned hernia surgeon Prof.Igor Belyansky.
