About
Clinical infectious diseases of adults is my subspecialty, with special interest in healthcare epidemiology and infection prevention. My career has been at the Creighton University School of Medicine, where I am director of the fellowship training program in adult infectious diseases. My primary clinical activity is at the Veterans Affairs Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System in Omaha, where I am Chief of Infectious Diseases, Hospital Epidemiologist, and Deputy Chief of Staff. I also see patients at Creighton's Travel Clinic and at CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center-Bergan Mercy. I have supervised medical students on 21 short term service trips to the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, and Colombia. I have been the subject of numerous media interviews. My master's degree in epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health involved a study of improving hand hygiene compliance with feedback on consumption of soap and towels. I have been President of the Metro Omaha Medical Society and am currently Governor of the Nebraska Chapter of the American College of Physicians.
