I am board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, interventional cardiology and cardiovascular computed tomography. After earning my medical degree in Egypt, I completed myresidency in internal medicine in the United States at Wayne State University Hospitals in Detroit, Michigan. At the same university, I completed fellowships in cardiology and interventional cardiology. I was the first physician to discover a successful treatment for inflammation of the heart, publishing a paper on the subject in Circulation in 1989. I have continued research throughout my 30+-year career at Marshfield Clinic Health System, during which I also served as a clinical professor at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. I have authored chapters in many textbooks, and articles in medical journals published throughout the United States and Europe. I hold membership in the American College of Physicians and the American College of Cardiology.
