Wesley Sherrell, DMD, is an Assistant Professor of Oral Medicine in the Division of Craniofacial and Surgical Care at the UNC Adams School of Dentistry.
His practice focuses on treating patients with salivary gland dysfunction; viral, bacterial, and fungal infections of the oral cavity; oral mucosal and vesiculobullous disease; oral changes related to systemic disease; oral complications from cancer/radiation therapy; headache disorders; temporomandibular disorders; burning mouth disorders; trigeminal and other neuralgias; and persistent idiopathic orofacial pain/atypical odontalgia.
His research interests include oral manifestations of systemic disease, oral cancer with no known risk factors, and novel therapeutics and management of oral pre-malignant and malignant lesions.
Sherrell earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University. He completed postgraduate training with an Advanced Dental Education Program in Oral Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine also obtaining a Certificate in Oral Medicine from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. During his final year of residency, he was elected and served as the Chief Resident in the Department of Oral Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
