Dr. Giap completed his MD/PhD Medical Scientist Training Program at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston in 1994 after working 3 years as a nuclear engineer. After his residency training at Loma Linda University Medical Center in 1998, he did one year of clinical fellowship at Scripps Clinic in stereotactic radiosurgery and brachytherapy. For the past 20 years prior to joining the University of Miami, he practiced in San Diego, mostly with Scripps Clinic. He has an appointment as Adjunct Clinical Professor in the Department of Radiation Medicine and Applied Sciences at University of California at San Diego. He has done research, publications, and given talks in the field of particle beam therapy, brachytherapy, radio-labeled antibody treatment planning, biophysical modeling, Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy, partial breast irradiation, radio-embolization with Y-90 microspheres, and virtual reality. He is the co-editor in chief of Translational Cancer Research Journal and has leadership position in the Particle Therapy Cooperative Group. He has worked with Vietnam National Cancer Institute developing advanced cancer treatments. His hobbies are tennis, sailing, video/audio geeks, and developing medical applications with virtual/augmented reality and biometric sensors.
