About
Erni Juwita Nelwan, MD, FACP, FINASIM is an internal medicine and tropical-infectious disease specialist in Jakarta. Dr. Erni is an associate professor; as she is a lecturer, researcher, and antibiotic policy enabler at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital-national referral for Indonesia. She has also been actively involved as head of antibiotics committee in two top-rank private hospitals in Jakarta, where she managing difficult cases too at that hospital. Dr Erni is a frequently invited speaker to numerous national and international meetings.
Born in Jakarta, Dr. Erni received her medical degree from Universitas Indonesia, Jakarta. She also completed her internal medicine and infectious disease training at the same university. In 2008 she received a WHO Fellowship in an advanced course on immunology, vaccine, and biotechnology at the University of Lausanne. She had her training on malaria in Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand. She joined her first good clinical practice training with Quintiles in India. During her PhD training she had several research related courses in Bandung organized by IMPACT concerning HIV/AIDS and people who inject drug.
She oversees an extensive research portfolio of basic and applied research to prevent, diagnose, and treat infectious disease such as HIV/AIDS, opportunistic infection as well as other sexually transmitted diseases and tuberculosis, hepatitis, and malaria as well as tropical diseases including leptospirosis, dengue fever, typhoid and filariasis.
Dr. Erni is a member of the Indonesian Association of Tropical Medicine and Infectious Disease, the Indonesian Collegium of Internal Medicine, the Indonesian National Filaria Eradication, The National Expert Committee of Malaria as well as other professional societies including the American College of Physicians, core member of Indonesia National Agency of Drug and Food Control, and the Core Team of Medical Education for National Board of Examinations in Indonesia. She serves on the editorial board of International Journal of Internal Medicine (IJIM) and as Core Team of Antibiotics Policy Control in Ciptomangunkusumo Hospital.
She is now Head of Infectious Disease and immunogy Research Cluster at IMERI, the institution for research in Faculty of Medicine Universitas Indonesia where she currently received grants of researches for Tuberculosis, HIV, Leptospirosis, and resistance mechanism to antibiotics also the antibiotics use in Indonesia. Last but now least, she teaches undergraduate medical students, post graduate training in internal medicine, and fellow in tropical and infectious disease training in Universitas Indonesia. She acts as the coordinator for international student exchange program in faculty of medicine universitas Indonesia, whom interest to learn in internal medicine also tropical diseases.
