Stamatios A. Papadakis was born in Athens, Greece. He received his M.D. degree and the Ph.D. degree from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece. He undertook basic surgical training in Athens and he continued his Orthopaedic training at the A’ Orthopaedic Department of Athens University. In 1998, he obtained the Greek title of Specialization in Orthopaedics and Traumatology, after taking the final examination. In the same year, he was trained in endoscopic spinal surgery in Kassel, Germany. From 1998 to 2000, he was a Spine Fellow at the A’ Orthopaedic Department of Athens University. Since 2000, he has been appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at NHS, Greece. In 2002, he completed a one-year Clinical Research Fellowship in Trauma Service in Los Angeles, USA, at the University of Southern California (USC). Dr. Papadakis has published 79 peer-reviewed manuscripts and 27 book chapters in his field of interest and his work has resulted in more than 1500 citations. He has been involved as principal and/or sub-investigator in research protocols and clinical trials phases III and IIIb. He has also been involved as faculty member in numerous courses and workshops. He is on the editorial board of two national and one international journals and also a reviewer of scientific journals. Dr. Papadakis has been invited to deliver approximately 140 scientific lectures in conferences in Greece and abroad. He is also a member of the Hellenic College of Orthopaedic Surgeons and an active member of the Athens Medical Association, and in other 14 national and international Scientific Societies. He was a Founding Member of the National Health Operations Centre, a branch of health enterprises of the Greek Ministry of Health and Social Solidarity and has participated as a representative of the Greek government, in numerous medical and humanitarian missions worldwide.
