The aminothiols maintain intracellular and extracellular redox homeostasis and are part of armamentarium of antioxidant defense system. They are also precursors and intermediates in numerous metabolic pathways and facilitate the removal of noxious compounds in normal physiology. I looked into the Methionine metabolism pathway which is the only source for the homocysteine (amino thiol) and other intermediatery metabolites which are essential in maintain the normal physiology of the cell.
