Dr Semwal is currently serving as a faculty member at the Department Phytochemistry, Uttarakhand Ayurved University, India. In addition to the teaching and research, he has been assigned various administrative responsibilities at the University. Prior to joining this position, Dr Semwal has been a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Tshwane University of Technology, Pretoria, South Africa. His research was funded by Tshwane University of Technology and National Research Foundation, South Africa. He received his MSc in Organic Chemistry and PhD in Phytochemistry from HNB Garhwal University, Srinagar, India. During the PhD, he worked on the chemistry and pharmacology of selected plants of Central Himalaya having antidiabetic and antitubercular properties. In 2005, he appointed as Lecturer at the Department of Chemistry, HNB Garhwal University, India. He also worked as a R&D scientist in an India based pharmaceutical industry and his key roles were method developments and technology transfer for various herbal products. In 2010, he received prestigious Dr DS Kothari Postdoctoral Fellowship from University Grants Commission, New Delhi, India. He did his postdoctoral work at the Department of Chemistry, Panjab University, Chandigarh, and his research was based on the investigation of antidiabetic principles from selected plants species from Indian origin. He has been awarded the postdoctoral researcher of the year 2014 by Tshwane University of Technology, South Africa. He has been a PI of seven R&D projects including three ongoing ones funded by different national and international agencies. Presently, he is serving as an editor of many prestigious journals including Journal of Ethnopharmacology (Elsevier) and Current Clinical Pharmacology (Bentham Science). In addition, he has been reviewing for many international journals published by the world renowned publishers. In past, he organized many international and national conferences/ seminars on traditional medicine. He has been published about 100 papers in various journals of international repute and also presented his work at many national and international conferences including as an invited speaker. He has already published 7 books on traditional medicine and phytochemistry. He received many prestigious awards including young scientist for his research and academic performance. His current research interests are phytochemistry, phytomedicine, clinical pharmacology, drug discovery and development, drug delivery and Ayurveda.
