About
Dr. Angella Musiimenta is a Senior Lecturer and the Deputy Dean of Faculty of Computing and Informatics, Mbarara University of Science and Technology. Since 2007, she has been in active research in using patient-centred technology-assisted behavioral change interventions for improving the health of Ugandans. She is a dedicated, diligent and passionate professional with an exceptional academic background, outstanding problems solving skills, and a strong passion for behavioral science research. In 2016, she emerged the first Ugandan to win a prestigious ‘emerging global leader’ K43 award (1K43TW010388) that investigates the use of mobile health technologies to support TB medication adherence in rural Uganda. In 2017, with funding support from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, she emerged first Ugandan to win the German-African Innovation Incentive award (01DG18004) to support maternal health using mobile health multimedia technologies in Uganda. Between 2016, she co-investigated two NIH-funded studies (R34MH100940, and R21 AI108329 that support ART adherence using mobile health technology. She is also managing an eLearning project supported by the Swedish Programme for ICT in Developing and Emerging Regions (SPIDER), whose aim is to enhance the teaching and learning of mathematics and basic health in schools based in Nakivale refugee settlement. Additionally, she is coordinating a STEM for Girls project supported by Education Partnership Africa whose aim is to encourage girls’ participation in STEM subjects and careers. Regarding her previous engagements, her Commonwealth-sponsored PhD research (pursued at the University of Manchester—UK) explored the use computer-assisted interventions to prevent HIV/AIDS among the youth in Uganda. She has specific training and expertise in mobile health technologies, TB research methods, implementation research, qualitative and behavioral science methodology, and quantitative research.
