Over the last 25 years I have worked to raise community ownership for responding to emergencies, predominately through first aid. As a public health priority, sudden illness and injury result in significant losses of quality of life and social-economic costs to society, but integrating education and advanced care systems we can empower individuals to appropriately (effectively and safely) respond. This work continues to be fruitful internationally as evidenced in the International Journal of First Aid Education, which I'm proud to be the editor-in-chief.
