About
I teach psychosocial dynamics in the department of physician assistant studies of the College of Health Sciences. I also work in the Department of Population Health in the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific at Western University of Health Sciences. My research is broadly ocused on the intersection of psychological processes and physical health and disease. What can we do to enhance the impact of health-related behavioral and social sciences research? I am interested in the coordination of behavioral and social sciences research and integrating these sciences within the health sciences.
I study the role of psychosocial and socioeconomic stress on physical and psychological health and well-being, especially in people with stigmatized health conditions, people of color, sexual minorities, and gender minorities. Examining these phenomena include going beyond an individual focus and examining factors at the social, cultural, economic, and environmental levels that affect health and well-being in individuals and communities.
Other research interests include leveraging health information technology and telehealth to identify and address social determinants of health and other social and behavioral risk factors. Finally, as a member of the Center for Open Science, I am interested in approaches to the replication of psychological science.
