About
Doug Broadfield is a neuroscientist and comparative anatomist whose research interests are the evolution of the human brain, and human and nonhuman primate anatomy. His research is wide-ranging, covering the fossil record, comparative neuroanatomy and cognitive function. Topics undertaken by his lab have included the evolution of sex differences in the brain, the evolution of language, and numerocity of the chimpanzee mind. His initial research on sex differences of the corpus callosum in chimpanzees showed that neurons connecting language areas in this region of the brain in humans may have begun to form some 7 million years ago. This research also led to other findings that pinpoint the origins of language to approximately 1 million years ago.
