Dr. Philip Stieg, chairman and founder of the Weill Cornell Brain and Spine Center, is a world-renowned neurosurgeon with expertise in cerebrovascular disorders and skull base surgery. An internationally known academic, author, and lecturer, and a master neurosurgeon and innovator in the comprehensive care of patients with neurologic diseases, Dr. Stieg has for 20 years been named one of the nation’s Top Doctors by Castle Connolly.
Dr. Stieg oversees a neuroscience research program with thousands of patients enrolled in clinical trials for novel treatment of CNS disorders using advanced therapies in personal medicine, minimally invasive surgery, and gene therapy. In 2010 he launched the Weill Cornell Surgical Innovations Lab, a global multimedia neurosurgical teaching facility. His collaboration with Cornell's School of Biomedical Engineering has led to new therapies for brain tumors, spinal disc regeneration, and epilepsy.
Dr. Stieg is often featured in the media on developments in brain health and trauma as well as healthcare trends.
Dr. Stieg received his Ph.D. from Union University and his M.D. from the Medical College of Wisconsin. He trained at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School after completing a fellowship in cell transplantation for restorative neurological function at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden. Dr. Stieg joined the Harvard Medical School after completing his postgraduate training.
