Dr. John Lantis is a native of New York City and was born at St. Luke’s Hospital. After attending Davidson College he matriculated at Albany Medical College where he graduated Cum Laude, and was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha, the medical honor society. He then went on to complete his general surgical residency at Tufts/New England Medical Center and his vascular surgery fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. In 2000 he accepted a faculty position in Surgery at Columbia University, College of Physicians & Surgeons.

He joined the faculty at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital in 2004, after 4 years in practice at New York Presbyterian Hospital. Where in 2007 he accepted the position of the Chief of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery; and in 2013 the additional role of Vice Chair for Operations in the Department Surgery. Prior to accepting the position in 2007, he was the Director of Clinical Research for the Department of Surgery, a position he still holds. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, past President of the New York Vascular Surgery Society, and a Founding Board Member of the American Board of Wound Medicine and Surgery. He was named a Professor of Clinical Surgery at Columbia University; College of Physicians and Surgeons in 2013. With the merger of the Mount Sinai and Continuum Health Partners systems, Dr. Lantis is currently the Vice Chairman for Operations; for the Department of Surgery; Chief of Division, Vascular/Endovascular Surgery and Director of Clinical Research at Mt. Sinai St. Luke's and Roosevelt Hospitals. He also holds the position of Professor of Surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine.

His clinical practice includes endovascular and open limb salvage, with a multi-disciplinary approach to wound closure and limb preservation, carotid artery surgery, open and endovascular abdominal and thoracic aneurysm repair. He has a strong interest in the pathophysiology of wound care - including chronic venous disease, diabetic foot ulcers and ischemic lower extremity ulcers. He has served as principal investigator on over 55 clinical trials and is widely published in Journal of Vascular Surgery, WOUNDS, Diabetes Care and Annals of Vascular Surgery.
