I am a Consultant Neurologist and Professor at the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, where I run a very busy government clinic and private practice seeing many patients (around 70+ every week) with Parkinson’s and other Movement Disorders. I earned my medical and research doctorate degrees from the University of Melbourne, and was admitted to Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians after completing advanced training in adult Internal Medicine and Neurology in Melbourne. I trained in Parkinson’s & Movement Disorders at world-renowned centres in Melbourne and Toronto. I have published widely in the field of Movement Disorders (Parkinson's as well as a variety of rarer movement disorders), with 70+ peer-reviewed journal papers and book chapters, including first-author publications in Lancet Neurology, JAMA Neurology, Movement Disorders, etc. and co-authorship in journals such as Nature Genetics, Annals of Neurology and Brain (around 2,500 citations, h-index 20). I serve on the International Parkinson & Movement Disorder Society (MDS) Committee for Evidence-Based Medicine as well as the Task Force for Palliative Care, and am the immediate past-Secretary (previously Education Committee Chair) of the MDS Asian-Oceanian section. I have a strong commitment to teaching/training and have organized numerous teaching courses on Parkinson’s & Movement Disorders, and have delivered and/or participated in >200 international-level lectures and expert panels (in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Australia, Japan, Singapore, China, India, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Brunei, Myanmar, United Arab Emirates, Kyrgyzstan, etc.). These have often been under the auspices of the MDS, as MDS Visiting Professor, MDS Ambassador, or MDS Virtual Professor. I have given numerous Plenary lectures, including at MDS Congresses (Toronto 2011, Dublin 2012, Nice 2019) and at the World Parkinson's Congress (Kyoto 2019). I am Medical Advisor to the Malaysian Parkinson’s Disease Association, and a founding member (and current Chair) of the Malaysian Movement Disorder Council. I was part of the 4-strong team representing Malaysia that beat 13 other national teams to win the Tournament of the Minds at the 19th World Congress of Neurology in 2009. I was elected as a Fellow of the Malaysian Academy of Sciences in 2017.
