About

I have worked for PHE for over 10 years coming from a clinical nursing background before that. Previous clinical work was with vulnerable groups, in particular Homeless people, prisoners and drug & alcohol clients. I work with commissioners and providers of community alcohol and drug treatment, running and presenting at network meetings. We monitor the performance of drug and alcohol treatment via the National Drug Treatment Monitoring System (NDTMS) and feedback or raise concerns as appropriate. We are also involved in advising Local Authorities and prisons about the retendering of substance misuse services.
Research. I have not carried out any formal research since completing my Masters in Public Health and before that a Masters in Health Science, for both of these I completed a dissertation following a research project (Attitudes to needle exchange in prisons and health beliefs among homeless people). In my current role I have conducted a number of audits and mapping exercises which have been written up into final reports. These have included subject matter such as Deaths in Custody ( for a local prison) the mapping of Drug Related Death policies in the Local Authorities and a number of case file audits in provider organisations.
