He is a Hydrophile, drowning prevention advocate. A Lover of aquatic sports & pursuits. He served 21 years in the Irish Navy. He was the Officer in Charge of the Diving Section for over two years and commanded two ships. In 2001 he took up the appointment of CEO of Irish Water Safety and remains in this post. He has presented papers on drowning prevention both at home and at European and other International Conferences. He is an Associate Fellow of the Nautical Institute and a member of the International Institute of Marine Surveying.
