About

A board-certified neurosurgeon and medical acupuncturist who volunteers his service at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD, Dr. Rosenbaum is well respected in the profession and community. In 25 years practicing medicine, he has developed a passion for patient-centered, safety-focused multimodal health care. His commitment to integrated medicine was the driving force behind the authorship of the Navy’s clinical practice guidelines on back and neck pain still in use after 16 years, the introduction of true endoscopic spinal surgery at the military’s flagship joint military medical center and becoming lead champion for stem cell advocacy in the care of war wounded. His connection to patient safety reaches back 20 years when he developed one of the nation’s first safety timeout and preoperative briefs, predating the Joint Commission’s Universal Protocol by more than 8 years, ensuring the highest of patient safety records.

Subsequently asked to teach and lecture on patient safety in many institutions Dr. Rosenbaum holds the oath “Primum non nocere” as his first charge. He is also a frequent speaker on topics such as head injuries, post-operative pain management, steroids and their impact, and integrated care. He is a staunch advocate for complementary medicine in the healing process and non-opioid pain management where and when appropriate. Dr. Rosenbaum has authored and co-authored many articles in several healthcare publications. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a diplomate of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and is the past-President of the Board of Directors for Warrior Canine Connection and a current member of the Board of Trustees of Parker University. He holds two US patents (with two in process), performs patient advocacy and medico-legal support, as well as industry team and leadership development as part of his non-clinical off duty activities. He enjoys solving problems by enacting the simplest possible solutions. By the time he retired from the Navy, he was featured in two books, two editions of Stars and Stripes (Navy Edition) in addition to being Surface Warfare qualified and awarded medals/ribbons for Defense Meritorious Service, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation, Humanitarian service and Afghanistan campaign among others. He received his Doctorate of Medicine at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, VA and a BS in Industrial/Organizational Psychology at George Mason University, Fairfax, VA after graduating from Fork Union Military Academy in Fork Union, VA.
