Dr. Tzamaloukas is Emeritus Professor of Medicine at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine and Physician at the Raymond G Murphy VA Medical Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA. His research has been focused on abnormalities in osmolality, measurements of body water and evaluation of body composition in various clinical states, adequacy of peritoneal dialysis and clinical outcomes of chronic hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. He has received several awards including the Outstanding Medical Attending award from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine house-staff, the Outstanding Achievement award from the New Mexico chapter of the National Kidney Foundation, the Internist Laureate award from the New Mexico chapter of the American College of Physicians, a special contribution award from the National Kidney Foundation, and an honorary Doctorate from the Medical School at the University of Ioannina, Greece. Dr. Tzamaloukas is a Master of the American College of Physicians. He has presented numerous pieces of research, as well as invited reviews, in National and International meetings, and has published more than 260 peer-reviewed original reports and 50 invited reviews or book chapters. He was a member of the committee composing the National Guidelines for adequacy of peritoneal dialysis (KDOKI) and has been or is currently a member of the editorial boards of nine scientific journals. .
