Professor Markku Partinen, MD (1975), PhD (1982), FAAN (2018) is Director of the Helsinki Sleep Clinic, Vitalmed Research Centre. He is the Principal Investigator of Sleep Research Program at Department of Clinical Neurosciences, Institute of Clinical Medicine, University of Helsinki, Finland. He is a neurologist and he has a Board Certificate in Sleep Medicine and Traffic Medicine. He has worked as a researcher at Stanford University, USA in 1985-86 and in Bologna, Italy in 1987. He is the founder of the Finnish Sleep Research Society (1988) and Finnish Sleep Federation (1998). He has had many important International positions in different research societies including Presidency of the World Association of Sleep Medicine (WASM). He has published more than 350 original papers in peer reviewed Journals and written several books and review articles. Total number of publications is over 700. His Hirsch factor (H-factor) is 65 in Scope and 60 in ISI Web of Science. He has received a Medal for Traffic Safety in 2001 and a Placard of the The Finnish Motor Insurers´ Centre in 2008. His current interests are focused on narcolepsy, sleep apnea, sleepiness, fatigue, myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME/CFS) and insomnia.
