About
I am a founding member and former president of the Society for Social Studies of Science. I was a pioneer in the anthropology of science and the sociology of mathematics. Since 1990, I have been lecturing, teaching and writing about the brain and society and in particular about the social brain paradigm. I’ve developed a new socially grounded model of the brain which has guided my work on my latest book, Einstein’s Brain: Genius, Culture and Society (Palgrave, 2019). I have taught at Michigan State, Wellesley, Rensselaer, NYU and held chairs and professorships at Harvey Mudd, the Free University of Brussels, the universities of. Gothenburg & Roskilde simultaneously, Ghent University, Nottingham University, and hold a lifetime position as Senior Lecturer at Northeasten University in Shenyang, China. My work has been supported by grants and fellowships from the NSF, Dept. of Education, and NEH; and I’ve been a policy adviser on science and technology to agencies in the US, Europe, and South America.
