Dr. Gurkan is an Assoc. Prof. of Medical Biology (YOK/UAK). He is a molecular biologist/geneticist trained at UC Berkeley (A.B.) and Cambridge (M.Phil. & Ph.D.). He currently serves as the Director of the Turkish Cypriot DNA Laboratory since 2009 and a scientific advisor to the Turkish Cypriot Member Office of the Committee on Missing Persons since 2006. He also teaches part-time at the EMU Dr Fazil Kucuk Faculty of Medicine & acts as a founding co-director of FSH-EMU MGRL.
