Dr. A. J. Applewhite is the Medical Director at Baylor University Medical Center’s Comprehensive Wound Center in Dallas, TX, where he runs the busiest wound center in the DFW metroplex and sees between 55-60 wound patients daily. He received his M.D. from the University of Texas Medical School in Houston and completed his Family Medicine Residency at UTMB. After spending four years in Chicago practicing family and sports medicine, he devoted his full time practice to wound care and hyperbaric medicine. He is doubled board certified, holding board certifications in both Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine and Family Medicine. In addition to his Board Certifications, he is a Certified Wound Specialist Physician, and is certified by the American Wound Care Association. In 2003, was named the first Medical Director for the Methodist Hospital of Dallas Wound Care Center. In 2008, he moved to Baylor where he also serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor for the Texas A & M Medical School. In addition to teaching medical students, residents, nurses and physicians on wound care and hyperbaric medicine, Dr. Applewhite is a Trustee of the American Board of Wound Management Foundation and is President-Elect for the Gulf Coast Chapter of the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society. In addition to other publications and poster presentations, he collaborated on a manuscript as an expert panel member entitled “The Management of Diabetic Foot Ulcers through Optimal Offloading: Building Consensus Guidelines and Practical Recommendations to Improve Outcomes”, which was published in the November/December 2014 issue of JAPMA (Journal of American Podiatric Medical Association). Dr. Applewhite is a national and international speaker and instructor on wound care and hyperbaric medicine. Dr. Applewhite has served many leadership roles in the hospital and community, including serving on the Medical Executive Committee for Methodist Hospital in Dallas, Baylor Specialty Hospital and Select Specialty Hospital.
