Dr. Marie Veitia earned her PhD in Clinical Psychology from Louisiana State University in 1986 after
having completed her clinical internship at the Medical University of South Carolina. She joined the
faculty of Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine as a member of the Department
of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine. In 1995, in addition to her clinical activities, Dr. Veitia joined
the Office of Student Affairs and, in 2003, she was appointed as Associate Dean for Student Affairs
at Marshall. For many years, Dr. Veitia served as co-course director Introduction to Patient Care and
course director for Human Sexuality and received a number of teaching awards including Outstanding
Professor and Professor of the Year in Special Medical Topics. In 1997, she was recognized for her
service to female medical students by the American Medical Women’s Association with Honorary
Associate Membership and, in 2005, Dr. Veitia was inducted to Alpha Omega Alpha, Beta Chapter of
West Virginia. Dr. Veitia has been a co-principal investigator in research grants from the Department of
Health & Human Services and the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of
Health.
