About

Oxycodone is a potent opioid medication primarily used to manage moderate to severe pain. It belongs to the class of drugs known as opioid analgesics, which work by binding to opioid receptors in the brain and spinal cord, thereby reducing the perception of pain.

Oxycodone is available in various forms, including immediate-release tablets, extended-release tablets, and oral solutions. Immediate-release oxycodone is often prescribed for the relief of acute pain, while extended-release formulations are typically used for the management of chronic pain requiring around-the-clock treatment.

As with all opioid medications, oxycodone carries a risk of side effects, including drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, constipation, and respiratory depression (slowed breathing). These side effects can be particularly concerning if oxycodone is misused, taken in higher doses than prescribed, or combined with other central nervous system depressants such as alcohol or benzodiazepines.
