I graduated (MBBS) in 1990 from the Calcutta University and obtained postgraduate degree in Surgery (MS) in 1998 from Delhi University. During my academic career I received numerous awards and prizes including the Order of Merit (Gold medal) of Calcutta University and the best junior resident award during my residency at Lady Hardinge Medical College, New Delhi. In my professional career, I have received research paper awards, travelling fellowships, honours including the prestigious International Guest Scholar of the American College of Surgeons in 2011. I had been a visiting clinical fellow in colorectal surgery at Christian Medical College, Vellore, India, Weill Cornell Medical College and New York Presbyterian hospital, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA. I have been invited to deliver guest lectures and as faculty in national conferences and training programs in India. My special interest is in abdominal surgery, colorectal surgery and wound healing research and academic interest is in medical education. My research interest lies in rectal cancers, experimental study of the effect of sepsis on colon and bacterial biofilms in chronic wounds.
I am a consultant general surgeon for the last 10 years and a teaching faculty at the Banaras Hindu University of India. I have published articles in journals like Digestive surgery, Archives of Surgery, British Medical Journal, Lasers in Surgery and Medicine, International Journal of Surgery, Ostomy Wound Management, International Surgery etc., and have been member of editorial board and reviewer of a number of peer reviewed journals. I am a fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, UK, International College of Surgeons, USA and Association of Surgeons of India, and an active member of Indian Medical Association, Indian Association of Surgical Gastroenterology, Association of Colorectal Surgeons of India, Association of the Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland, Society for the Surgeons of the Alimentary Tract of USA, Association of Advanced Wound Care of USA and Indian Society of Wound Management.
I live in Varanasi, India with my wife (neonatologist) and my son. I love to draw and paint and listen to music and songs in my leisure hours.
