About

Dr. Hong-Gyun Wu has graduate from Seoul National University (SNU) and has done his training at Seoul National University Hospital (SNUH). He is currently the Professor and department Chairman in both SNU and SNUH. Dr. Wu’s main clinical interest is head and neck cancer and lung cancer. Now, the intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) is the standard technique for radiation therapy of head and neck cancer, but no consensus on fractionation schedule. Goal of clinical research for both head and neck cancer as well as lung cancer is to find out the most effective fractionation (dose-time) schedule. His team is installing new radiation therapy equipment; cobalt-MRI machine, ViewRay. The genuine real-time image-guided radiation therapy will come true with this equipment. We are planning to develop various treatment protocols. Ongoing research projects include development of radiation sensitizer with epidermal growth factor, not epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitors. Other projects include the development of predictive assay and biomarkers for radiation therapy. We will also evaluation the role of immune-related factors, such as PD-L1, on the response of radiation therapy.
