What is ACICLOVIR ARROW GENERICS tablet prescribed for?

This medicine is a potent antiviral, active against viruses of the herpes group. It prevents the reproduction of the viruses in the infected cells, but cannot destroy the viruses hidden in the nerve ganglia, responsible for recurrences (relapses) which it cannot prevent.
It is used in :

treating herpes outbreaks and preventing recurrences,

treatment of chickenpox and shingles.

Interactions of ACICLOVIR ARROW GENERICS tablet with other substances

The use of drugs that are potentially toxic to the kidneys (contrast media, aminoglycosides, high-dose methotrexate, cyclosporine, tacrolimus, etc.) increases the risk of adverse renal effects.
Fertility, pregnancy and lactation
Pregnancy:

No adverse effects to the unborn child have currently been established with this medication. Only your doctor can assess the possible risk of its use in your case, especially in the long-term preventive treatment of recurrences of genital herpes.
Breastfeeding:

This drug passes very weakly in the breast milk; however, it is preferable to use it only on medical advice in the woman who breast-feeds.
How to use ACICLOVIR ARROW GENERICS tablet and dosage

This medication should be taken with a glass of water.
Usual dosage:

Treatment of herpes and prevention of recurrence:

Adults and children over 2 years of age:

Treatment of herpes infections: 1 tablet, 5 times daily, every 4 hours, for 5 to 10 days.

Prevention of frequent recurrences: 1 tablet, 4 times a day or 2 tablets, twice a day, as a continuous treatment for several months.

Pharmacotherapeutic class: DIRECT ACTION ANTIVIRALS, ATC code: J05AB01.

This drug is a direct-acting antiviral (it destroys or stops the growth of the virus responsible for herpes).

It is used in the treatment or prevention of certain forms of herpes (infectious and transmissible disease such as genital herpes or ocular herpes for example).
