T. S. Dharmarajan MD is the Vice-Chairman, Department of Medicine, Clinical Director, Division of Geriatrics and the Director, Geriatric Medicine Fellowship Program at Montefiore Medical Center (Wakefield Campus) Bronx, an affiliate of New York Medical College; he is a Professor of Clinical Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx,  New York. He had earlier served as Chair, Department of Medicine at Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center, for 4 years prior to its transition to Montefiore Medical Center. Dr. Dharmarajan is certified by the American Boards in Internal Medicine, Nephrology and Geriatric Medicine; he has been a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, Fellow of the American Geriatrics Society and Member, American Society of Nephrology. In April 2013, he was awarded the Mastership of the American College of Physicians (MACP). Dr. Dharmarajan was instrumental in developing a 70 bed geriatric medicine program at Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center in the Bronx (currently Montefiore Medical Center), with recognized clinical, academic and research components, including a fully accredited fellowship program in Geriatrics for a complement of 10 fellows. His program, among the biggest in the country, is recognized as among the finest in the tri-state area. Dr. Dharmarajan co-edited the textbook Clinical Geriatrics (CRC Press / Parthenon Publishing) released in 2003. His second textbook, Geriatric Gastroenterology (Springer), co-edited with Dr. CS Pitchumoni, was released in July 2012. Dr. Dharmarajan has authored 23 and 17 chapters respectively in the two books. His publications in peer reviewed journals and text books total over 150, in addition to over 350 scientific presentations (abstracts) in county, state, national and international meetings. His research interests focus primarily in the areas of geriatrics, nutrition, anemia and anticoagulation. He has been a Principal Investigator for several research projects, including many for the AMDA Foundation. Besides winning the Howard Gutterman Award for best research project in the Annual AMDA (2006) meeting, several of his abstracts have been winners in state and national society meetings. He has been a recipient of numerous recognitions and awards in Medicine, including: “Teacher of the Year”; “Peer to Peer” recognition by the Bronx County Society; Dedication as Teacher and Mentor to young Physicians in the Bronx (from American Assn. of Physicians of Indian origin), Unparalleled Leadership in the Medical Community for medicine and research (from the Bronx County Society) and others. In April 2013, he was featured on the cover of AgingWell magazine, as one of five noteworthy geriatricians. Dr. Dharmarajan speaks regularly for CME and other programs at local, national and international meetings. Dr. Dharmarajan is the current President, of the Montefiore Wakefield Campus Physician Council and member of the hospital Executive Committee. Earlier he was Chair, Quality Improvement Program, at Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center and the Catholic Health Care Network, NY, and Member of the Board of Trustees at Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center.
