Plasma Osteopontin is not Associated with Vascular Markers of Subclinical Atherosclerosis in a Population of Young Adults Without Symptoms of Cardiovascular Disease. The Cardiovascular Risk in Young Finns Study.

Abstract

Osteopontin has been suggested as biomarker for the severity of atherosclerosis, but its role in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis is not clear. We studied the distribution and determinants of osteopontin in a population-based cohort of 1,817 young adults (aged 30-45). No evidence was found of an association between osteopontin levels and the early vascular markers of subclinical atherosclerosis in asymptomatic young adults.
