Abstract: Introduction and Significance: The Burning of Arabian incense, or Bokhour, is a prestigious tradition in Saudi Arabia and the region as a whole. Many recent studies have shown that Bokhour releases many damaging particles that are believed to contribute to various respiratory diseases including Asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), and Lung cancer. However, the evidence is still weak at best and more research is needed in this area before the results drive a real change in this well-established community tradition. The objective of our research project is to review available data to support existing evidence and to develop future plans to increase Saudi population awareness about the possible hazards of such a custom. The significance of this research project stems from its support to the mission of Alfaisal University and to our community as a whole. This project will fill a gap in the medical literature relevant to the KSA. Methods: we will conduct a systematic review of the existing literature using online databases such as PubMed, Ovid, Science Direct and Acknowledge. Contact info.
