Vaccination and Autism Rasha Essam Al-Shawaf Email: [email protected] Alfaisal University College of Medicine Saudi Arabia The phenomenon of Autism haunts a category which is extremely dear to our hearts, and unfortunately, this phenomenon has not received much attention from the society. There is a theory built on some researches in the United States that returns the cause of Autism to the interaction of the body with some immunizations or vaccines, but there are other studies that refute this theory, and even if we accept what was said about blaming vaccination, we can’t neglect the remarkable and major benefit of vaccination in saving the lives of millions of children all around the world from serious diseases such as poliomyelitis and measles. This research includes the understanding of the immune system, the concept of vaccination, its origin and its side effects. I tried to address Autism as a disease that affects children by obtaining some studies in order to rehabilitate these children to be active in the community. It was very beneficial to understand the disease through interviews conducted with mothers dealing directly with their Autistic children. In conclusion, there is a link between vaccination and Autism and my research illustrated that using statistics theory from previous researches conducted in this field and interviews.
