Abstract
Sarcoidosis is a multisystem inflammatory disease of unknown etiology that predominantly affects the lungs and intrathoracic lymph nodes. It is manifested by the presence of noncaseating granulomas in affected organ tissues. The presenting symptoms largely depend on the severity and stage of the disease. The lungs are the most commonly affected organ in the disease process, with more than 90% of patients exhibiting pulmonary symptoms.
The symptoms of pulmonary sarcoidosis can mimic several respiratory diseases, such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), Tuberculosis, hypersensitivity pneumonitis, etc. Therefore, maintaining a high clinical index of suspicion for this diagnosis is often crucial.
