Abstract
Stimulants are commonly the first choice of medications prescribed to treat Attention-deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) because of their proven results. However, burdensome side effects, such as loss of appetite, difficulty sleeping, or headaches can potentially outweigh any improvement in symptoms. Due to their relatively minimal side effect profile and affordability, therapies under the realm of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) may be better for patients who want to decrease their reliance on medications or replace them altogether. Currently, there are no systematic reviews assessing the impact of alternative therapies on ADHD among all age groups while comparing the effectiveness between modalities.
