Abstract
In osteoarthritis, the degeneration of the articular cartilage gradually progresses to expose the subchondral bone. Almost 40% of the over 60 have premature OA. Degenerated cartilage does not repair itself spontaneously therefore it is essential to prevent degeneration. With the support of analgesics, visco-supplementation and corticosteroids but these do not suppress the progression of cartilage degeneration and destruction. The development of a drug, preferably administered I.A, that modifies OA is what is needed to effectively treat this disease. At present, reference is made to protein therapies, gene therapy and nucleic acid therapies to act on pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines. Polynucleotides are a very promising infiltrative therapy.
