Rapid Cycle Deliberate Practice.

Abstract

Poster Topic: Simulation Methodology

Rapid Cycle Deliberate Practice (RCDP) facilitate learning by taking the participants through a series of repetitive scenarios with graded level of difficulty. This incorporates direct feedback and coaching by the facilitator, which differs from traditional debriefing which may encourage more reflection. There are a number of situations and procedures in clinical management that can be choreographed and these can be rehearsed till perfect. In simulated scenarios, the difficulty and objectives of each encounter can be manipulated so the learners can be subjected to pre-programmed variations that allow for repetitive practice.

In this workshop we will share our RCDP teaching experience in acute care resuscitations. Participants will learn about RCDP, write a script for RCDP and create a plan for faculty development.

The objectives of this workshop:
1. Describe Rapid Cycle Deliberate Practice (RCDP)
2. Identify possible applications of RCDP
3. Create a framework for scenario writing for teaching with RCDP
4. Create an outline for faculty development for this teaching practice
