What are we?

Cureus is the medical journal and professional sharing platform for a new generation of doctors and patients. Based in San Francisco, California, Cureus is a Springer Nature journal leveraging the power of an online, crowd-sourced community platform to promote medical research and discovery with tools to better serve and highlight physicians and researchers around the world. The result? Better research, faster publication and easier access for everyone.

That’s why we created Cureus, an online medical journal with no or minimal cost to publish and free reader access - a freemium business model based on digital advertising, hosting mini journals and publishing competitions. We’re working to reduce the barriers to publication whenever possible with the goal of increasing the global literature of medical knowledge.

Cureus is based in San Francisco, CA, but the entire team is currently working remotely as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Strategic Sales Manager

Remote - Part Time


Are you looking for a new part time challenge with an industry innovator? The Cureus Journal of Medical Science is recruiting a part time Strategic Sales Manager.

Job Description

The Strategic Sales Manager will work with the CMO/COO and Digital Marketing Strategist to execute a sales plan for Academic Channels, Publishing Competitions, and Digital Marketing Campaigns that will support and achieve our accelerated revenue performance projections. The Strategic Sales Manager should use past sales experience to help strengthen and improve our current sales strategy.

You will:

  • Follow up on inbound sales leads
  • Liaise with the CMO/COO and Digital Marketing Strategist to generate new leads
  • Organize sales funnel and lead outreach using HubSpot or similar application
  • Meet or exceed quarterly and annual sales goals and revenue growth targets
  • Negotiate and close contracts for new sales and option add-on sales

Qualifications

You have:

  • Demonstrated experience prospecting through a broad range of outreach methods including email marketing, targeted outbound calling, trade shows and other networking activities or equivalent customer service experience
  • Enthusiasm and passion for pursuing and winning new business with a consultative, solution-sales approach
  • Experience working within an academic, research or scientific environment is highly desired
  • Exceptional communication skills including collaborating, negotiating, persuading, public speaking, and listening are required
  • Experience with GoogleMeets, screen sharing, and leading remote pitch meetings
  • Motivated, assertive, and goal-oriented with ability to work independently while also being a team player
  • Must possess excellent time management skills
  • Experience using HubSpot or other sales management software
  • It’s a plus if you bring some of your own medical industry leads and connections

Managing Editor

Remote - Full-time


Job Description

As the Managing Editor you will be responsible for overseeing the journal’s special issues, investigating research integrity inquiries, and providing scientific guidance to our team of volunteer and freelance editors. You will become an expert on various aspects of the Cureus platform, helping streamline workflows and ensuring maximum efficiency across the editorial department. As part of the editorial team, you will work with the Editor-in-Chief and Director of Publishing to guide and manage the editorial direction and quality of the journal. Cureus aims to improve the lives of clinicians and researchers by streamlining the academic publishing process - if you want to devise and deliver high-quality solutions that help to change the publishing status quo, then we want you!

  • Salary range: $90,000 - $100,000
  • Work location: Fully Remote (Eastern Time Zone)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Becoming an expert on Cureus publishing process to support authors, peer reviewers and editors
  • Overseeing Cureus Collections, our version of special issues, including reviewing collection proposals and drafts, coordinating with guest editors, and managing ongoing collections
  • Leading initial research integrity inquiries by investigating allegations, communicating with relevant parties, making preliminary assessment and recommendation
  • Handling peer-reviewed article submissions, and working closely with other editors on all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection and overseeing peer and editorial review
  • Communicating with external authors and the Cureus editorial team
  • Reviewing and editing medical science articles with regard to “good publishing practice”
  • Staying up-to-date in the field of professional medicine as well as the market and competitive situation
  • Making well-reasoned editorial decisions in line with expert advice and industry standards
  • Assisting in outreach efforts to expand team of volunteer associate editors
  • Partnering with cross-functional, internal teams on a regular basis
  • Confidently expressing your ideas to improve & grow the team as we scale

Qualifications:

  • PhD or MSc in a related field
  • Extensive academic publishing experience as an author and peer reviewer
  • Willingness to drive journal activities
  • Superb written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Editorial experience is preferred

Social Media Marketing Internship

Do you want to help revolutionize and democratize a segment of the medical industry? If so, you’ve come to the right place. Cureus is looking for the right person to assist with our social media efforts. The ideal individual for this role has a strong interest in learning about social media strategy and helping implement daily social media functions across all of our channels: LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, and Reddit. A familiarity with scheduling tools such as later.com is a plus. You should be organized, diligent, and detail focused. This is an unpaid internship that will provide rewarding experience in the social media and medical worlds.

Responsibilities:

  • Search for aesthetically and medically appropriate stock images via Adobe Stock Photos
  • Help search for and schedule content on our social media calendar
  • Help organize social media spreadsheets
  • Post daily within Facebook interest groups and subreddits
  • Use content to create daily Instagram stories
  • Search for and connect with our users on social media platforms

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current high school or college student
  • Experience using social media platforms
  • Experience using google suite (sheets, docs, etc…)
  • Thrive in a self-starter, fast-paced and changing environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Work experience in social media and/or professional healthcare segment
  • Passion for making a difference in the world through positive changes in healthcare

Minimum Commitment:

  • This is a summer internship (that could turn into a longer term internship), so working through the end of August is required
  • Minimum 7 hours per week commitment; ideally 15 hours per week
