Family Medicine is a clinical specialty that transcends human organ systems and cares for all people across all age groups, at all phases of their life. This specialty adheres to the principles of comprehensiveness, continuity of care for patients, coordinating cares with other specialties; having high regards to preventive cares and recognition of serious diseases at their undifferentiated stages. Employing active rehabilitation to alleviate symptoms and functions of the injured organ-systems intertwined with good communication and consultation skills. Essential integral of this specialty includes patient-centred doctoring and informed follow-up. This is upheld by continuous self education, self-reflection, research and teaching.

An associate professor in family medicine since August 2015. Giving lectures on family medicine and its practice, and tutor in general practice. Besides clinical percepting, teaching the undergraduates on medical professionalism and clinical ethics in family medicine, and cancers prevention in primary care; teaching the postgraduates on evidence-based medicine and managing ethical issues in family medicine. Tutoring the general practitioners on clinical research, medical records, reports, confidentiality and professionalism. Had led and conducted > 11 medical researches, participated in > 10 clinical/medical researches and involved in another 5 clinical trials. Currently planning a cluster clinical trial. Serving as an Editorial Board Member with the journal of the Malaysian Family Physicians (MFP) since October 2015, and International Journal of Diabetes Research since January 2016 .

Had published/publishing > 50 journal articles with > 40 as the first author. Published 2 books, co-editted another and written 5 chapters. Had contributed to 5 teaching materials, 2 training manuals, 2 national reports (diabetes and asthma) and a few monographs. Had 7 submitted research manuscripts, 2 submitting research manuscripts and 3 submitting write-ups (review and commentaries). Published a Cochrane-based systematic review on psychological interventions for diabetes-related distress.

Obtained a PhD degree from University of Utrecht, Julius Center for Health Sciences and Primary Care, University Medical Center Utrecht, The Netherlands. Huge interest in overcoming the challenges to optimal care for patients with type 2 diabetes at the primary care level. Looking into the most minimal and effective psychological interventions to alleviate emotional distress among these patients for the improvement in quality of life. Obtained a medical degree from University Science Malaysia in 1999. Started professional life as a house officer at University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) till 2000, since when worked in Sarawak few districts' community clinics such as that at Tebekang, Tebedu, Serian and Kota Samarahan till 2003. Graduated with a master degree in Family Medicine from University Malaya in 2007.
