About
Maria Tigka works as a midwife at the Delivery Room, in the General and Maternity Hospital “Helena Venizelou” in Athens, Greece. She received her Bachelor degree in Midwifery from the Technological Educational Institution of Athens, in 2006 and afterwards her Master’s degree with honors in “Research in Female Reproduction” from the School of Medicine of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, in 2012. She is currently a PhD Candidate and an Academic fellow in the Department of Midwifery, at the University of West Attica. Her research interests are in the areas of breastfeeding, breast cancer prevention and maternal and infant health. She has presented research-based papers at several national conferences. She used to be a course instructor in “Newborn Life Support” of the European Resuscitation Council. She was a board member of the Midwifery Association of Athens. She has won two scholarships as an undergraduate student.
