About

Professor Santhosh Puthiyakunnon, a postgraduate from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal University, India in 1999, joined the prestigious Christian Medical College and Hospital, Vellore, India as an Associate Research Officer in 2000. Then he worked as Assistant Professor/ Clinical Microbiology Consultant for another 7 years in Medical College & Hospitals in India. He joined the International Medical Graduate Program in Southern Medical University, Guangzhou, China in 2007 as a Foreign Expert Associate Professor and also completed his Doctorate degree in the field of genetic manipulation of mosquito vectors and vector borne diseases in Medical Parasitology Department, School of Tropical Medicine and Public Health in 2013. He was promoted to full time Professor in the same University in 2013. He has accomplished over 16 years of research and teaching experience in various domains of Medical Microbiology, Parasitology, Immunology and Epidemiology & Public Health. He has work experience in multi-cultural environment with different positions such as researcher, medical teacher, academic administrator and educationist.

He has published and presented more than 30 different peer reviewed SCI journal publications in various fields including bacterial septicemic diseases, Anthrax, Vaccine action programs (VAP) for Pneumococci and Hemophilus influenzae, Antibiotic Susceptibility and Drug emergence programs, Integrated Disease Surveillance Program (IDSP) and many other fields and attended many national and international conferences in India, China and other countries. He worked on many Scientific and Clinical projects including grants from NIH funding, NSFC funding in China, 2014-Annual Guangdong Natural Science Foundation Project (NSFC) in China, VAP program, SAPNA project and various other projects throughout his academic /research career. He has published many important chapters in Clinical Microbiology Book series including a recent a chapter in a CRC Book on Biology of Food borne Parasites, Food Microbiology Series in 2013 which was published by CRC Press/Taylor & Francis Group.

The recent research specializations include research projects dealing with Vector borne diseases including Dengue fever and have expertized in genetic manipulation of mosquito vectors by microRNA intervention technology to make transgenic mosquitos, which can prevent transmission of vector borne diseases and mosquito control. He has also undertaken several technical writing and review projects and is a reviewer of many International peer reviewed journal in the field of Microbiology, Parasitology, Infectious diseases, Epidemiology and Public Health.
