About

Alfredo Conti was born in Messina on September 18, 1973.He did his whole training in his City, studying at the local Conservatory of Music "A. Corelli ". He graduated in Medicine at the University of Messina in July 1997 and completed the residency in neurosurgery in 2002 under the mentorship of Prof. F. Tomasello, with a thesis on the use of the endoscope in the lesions of the anterior brainstem. This study, performed at the Institute of Anatomy at the University of Vienna, was subsequently published on “Neurosurgery” being the first experimental experience of a technique now used in the clinical settings. In 2003 he received a scholarship from the Foundation Carrozza-Pollicino-S. Leonardo. He completed a PhD in Neuro-Oncology at the University of Messina in 2007. Between 2006-2015 he served as Assistant Professor at the University of Messina. He is now Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at this same Institution.



In 2004 he spent time abroad at Southwestern University in Dallas, the University of Florida and the University of Miami to improve his skills in the field of stereotactic radiosurgery. In 2007 he carried out the training for the use of CyberKnife radiosurgery, and later dedicated himself to the use of this equipment contributing to its development and to its implementation at the University Hospital "G. Martino " of Messina, Italy.



Throughout his career he developed an intense scientific activity being author of about 100 international publications in full and more than 140 contributions in the form of abstracts. He served as reviewer for more than 25 scientific journals, including the most important in the field of neuroscience and is a member of the editorial board of 5 of them.



He has lectured in more than 70 occasions conference and invited speaker at several scientific institutions and international fora such as the British Society of Neurosurgery, the Slovak Academy of Sciences, the European Society of radiosurgery, the Neurosurgical Society of Southeast Europe , the Accuray Exchange in Radiation Oncology.



He received some of the major national and international awards in its field: the "Tagliapietra" National Award (awarded by the Italian Society of Neurosurgery), the "B. Guidetti” International Award (awarded by the Italian Society of Neurosurgery), Best Poster ESSFN (conferred by the European Society of Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery), EANS Aesculap Prize (awarded by the European Society of Neurosurgery). He works as a lecturer of Neuroscience in the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Science of Education. Alfredo Conti is married with Marcella D'Arrigo, medical doctor, and has two sons, George and Clelia. He is a passionate cyclist.
